So last night I decided to try a salt water taffy. I don’t think I’ve ever had one before, and so I asked my father in law to pick out the absolute best flavor. I put the taffy in my mouth, bit down perhaps a bit too hard in retrospect, and almost immediately heard the sound in my jaw of a tooth breaking.
Now, I’ve had plenty of “stress dreams” in which just this very thing happens. In fact, most of my teeth are in tatters by the end of many of these dreams. So for a moment, I completely felt as if I’d somehow gone into a dream. It’s a very strange sensation.
I did not finish the candy. I pulled it out, along with the tooth, and wrapped the tooth in a piece of paper. Turns out it was just a cap on a tooth, which had received a root canal several years ago, so it’s not that bad. It doesn’t hurt, and may be fine with a new cap.
But what a strange sensation.
